OK, it’s official: I need to improve on my networking skills. As if the business breakfast experience hadn’t told me that already.
The speaker at the CIMA presentation on “going it alone” tells me just to be myself, be honest about the fact that I’ve just had a baby and I chose to set up on my own because I wanted to spend time with my children and that sometimes I’ll be unobtainable because one of them is sick. Perhaps this is where I have been going wrong. May be if I bring along all four of them, I will be able to sell myself as one of these “super mums”. If I also tell them I’m home-educating, that will really knock all the grey suits off their feet. On the other hand, it possibly won’t sit well with the likes of grey suit #4, who has horses instead of children. There again, he couldn’t make a 5pm meeting and didn’t seem to feel guilty about it.
