I ring up payroll to sort out my overpayment. They don’t seem to want to answer my letter, so ringing them seems to be the only way.
I ask for details on how Payroller arrived at the figure that she says I owe them. Payroller seems put out that I would want to doublecheck her sums. I refrain from pointing out that this is my fourth run of maternity pay and the fourth time it’s been wrong. This time round they excelled themselves completely by wiping my entire maternity pay from the system. Payroller agrees she’ll send me her calculation.
The payroll department is a mystery to me, anyway. It’s been outsourced twice now, but its still the same people. I’m not sure how having a different company logo swinging over that part of the open plan office really makes a difference. It certainly hasn’t helped efficiency, but it’s probably cost a lot.
