Hub’s signed up for some freebie website. Since then, we have been inundated with emails and phone calls supposedly offering free gifts.
However, so far, they are all thinly veiled attempts to get us to buy something or sign up for a time share or both.
The latest caller gruffly informs him that he’s won a free holiday and gives a free-phone number to ring.
Curious, he rings it, but after only a few seconds of preamble, “you’re a timeshare company, aren’t you?” Hub concludes.
“er, timeshare is part of our operations, yes.” says the speaker on the other end, somewhat shamefully.
Meanwhile, my email address appears to have been sold or given to a third party without my permission. So, after only 7 months of spam-free email, once more, I am greeted with offers for viagra, share tips, begging letters and fishing emails but the ones I like best are the ones asking if I’d like to be a beneficiary of ten billion Libyan dollars, all I have to do is give them a million pounds upfront.
