The final kirtle and four aprons were finished during the day.
4.30pm The hat cutting out is next. This will eventually be a Tudor boy’s hat:
4.45pm My brain hurts working out which way it needs to be sewn up. I also seem to be inexplicably short of pins
5.30pm One finished Tudor hat. Only one more hat and four coifs to go.
6.00pm First coif cut out.
7.30pm I have broken the feed dogs on the machine. This is a bad thing. Up until about 5 mins ago, I didn’t even know what feed dogs were. Turns out they’re pretty necessary.
Hub takes the machine apart and gets it going again for another hour or so and then it goes again. We discover that the gears had physically worn out, to the extent that there were no “teeth” left. Fortunately, a friend comes to the rescue with her far superior machine (I’m actually seriously jealous)
1.00am The sewing marathon is finally over 😀
24hrs of sewing and 1 worn out machine later, result: 3 kirtles, 4 aprons, 4 coifs, 2 hats.
Also, I have a strong suspicion that we will resemble the Von Trapp family in that scene were they run through the streets in outfits all made from the same curtain fabric.
